Lectopia

Lectopia is an existing enterprise level lecture capture service at UNSW that is an integral component of UNSW TV and an integrated component of the new Blackboard 9. It provides a solution for academic staff seeking to record and publish content. The current Lectopia environment is out-dated, insufficient to meet the growing UNSW need, and no longer reliable or stable for staff and students. The need to transition, migrate and upgrade the Lectopia service is critical. Until 2009 Lectopia was hosted and supported by L&T@UNSW.

The Lectopia project will include:
• the migration of all aspects of Lectopia to the IT Department
• a version upgrade – Lectopia is currently being merged with the Echo360 product and a new combined system will be available at the end of 2009
• the modification and upgrade of infrastructure architecture to enable a ‘capacity on demand’ model. This will involve
• a venue refresh with 50 new digitisers made available across 50 venues
• the purchase of portable recording units to enable usage in smaller venues and in the field, and
• the trial of video equipment to supplement existing audio capability.
• the upgrade of the current ‘venue-based’ licence arrangements to an enterprise-level licence which will support anticipated growth and enable accompanying functionality benefits
